Germany is the largest Central European country in both population and area. It has a decentralised structure, and therefore has several large cities as capitals of the different regions. To the north it has borders with Denmark, to the east with Poland and the Czech Republic, to the south by Austria and Switzerland, and to the west by France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Germany consists of the high Alps in the south, the Bavarian plain, the hills of central Germany down to the coast of the north and Baltic Seas. There are landscapes of interesting old towns, medieval buildings, gothic churches and picturesque villages.
